Queen's orchestra

Wolf is an accomplished conductor, with significant experience conducting and coaching both small and large ensembles. Along with chamber music coaching and directing the Queen’s/Community cello orchestra, he has been the conductor of the Queen’s University Orchestra for the past six years.

Recent Queen’s University Orchestra perfomances include:

  • 2018 Bach Orchestral Suite in B-minor, Bizet Carmen Suite No.1, Schubert Unfinished Symphony
  • 2019 Faure Requiem, Sejourne concerto for marimba, Burge Canadian Shield
  • 2021 Finzi Romance for String Orchestra, Mozart Symphony No.31 (Paris), Beethoven Leonore Overture No.3
  • 2022 World Premiere of “Tangorium” arranged by Charles Cozens, featuring Bridge&Wolak
  • 2022 Grieg Holberg Suite, Tchaikovsky Rococo Variations, Bruckner Symphony No.1
  • 2023 Lauridsen Lux Aeterna, Suite from Video Games Live, John Williams Star Wars Suite
  • 2023 Tangorium in the Brockville Arts Centre for the 75th anniversary of Brockville’s Music Society
  • 2024 Mendelssohn violin concerto, Dvorak Symphony No.9, Mozart Requiem

Isabel Quartet

The Isabel Quartet is the resident string quartet of the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts. The quartet presented its inaugural concert in June 2016, and has gone on to present a series of concerts each year, often with visiting guest artists. The quartet also provides workshops, concerts and coaching to young musicians.

Queen’s Orchestra

 

Queen’s Orchestra is directed by Wolf Tormann and is open to Queen’s University students who play an orchestral instrument after passing a successful audition. String players in particular are encouraged to apply.

Rehearsal times are Fridays from 4:30pm to 7:30pm in the rehearsal hall of the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts

One of the annual highlights of the orchestra’s concert season is the performance of the previous year’s Concerto/Aria Competition winner.

Queen’s Cello Orchestra

The Queen’s cello orchestra is managed and conducted by Wolf, and includes both Queen’s students and community members, ranging in age from 12 to 75. Orchestra members practice together weekly from September to April and perform two concerts each year at the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts.
